The Castle is a 1997 Australian comedy-drama film directed by Rob Sitch. It starred Michael Caton, Anne Tenney, Stephen Curry and Tiriel Mora. The film was based on the book The Castle by Andrew Knightly and Wayne Macauley.
The movie was filmed in and around the real life town of Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. The exterior shots of the Kerrigan’s home were filmed in Woodend, while the majority of internal shots and most other external shots were filmed in studio in Melbourne.

In the annual Christmas movie, A Castle for Christmas, Kate (played by Meredith Hagner) is a successful book editor who is sent to a remote castle in the Scottish Highlands to oversee the production of a new children’s book. Unbeknownst to Kate, the castle is actually a dilapidated old ruin that is in need of repair. As she works on the book, she begins to fall in love with the castle and its owner, Ian (played by Michael Cassidy). As Christmas approaches, Kate starts to make plans to turn the castle into a festive wonderland. But when her boss finds out about her plans, he sends her home. Will Kate be able to save the castle and have her own fairytale Christmas?
The Reception
As the movie opens, we see a continuous shot of the exterior of a large, imposing castle. It is light gray in color with turrets at the corners and a drawbridge over a moat. We see people in period dress walking around the castle grounds and hear the sound of horses and carriages. The camera zooms in on one of the windows and we see a young woman looking out. She has curly red hair and is wearing a yellow dress. We soon learn that her name is Belle and that she is attending a Christmas party at the castle.
The party is in full swing when we see Belle arrive. She is escorted by a handsome man in a military uniform. They dance and mingle with the other guests, all of whom are very wealthy and dressed in lavish clothing. Belle seems out of place among all the opulence and looks longingly out the window at the poor people who are begging for food near the castle gates.
The Aftermath
The Aftermath is a 2018 British-American historical drama film directed by James Kent and written by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Rhidian Brook. The film stars Keira Knightley, Alexander Skarsgård, Jason Clarke, and Flora Thiemann.
Conclusion
The castle in the film is actually a real, working castle called Castle Howard, which is located in North Yorkshire, England. The castle has been used as a filming location for many other films and TV shows over the years, including “The Diana Tapes,” “Beckett,” and “Brideshead Revisited.”
