We take a look at the possibility of a third Bad Boys movie, as well as the career trajectories of its stars Will Smith and Martin Lawrence.

Checkout this video:

Introduction

It’s been nearly three years since the last Bad Boys film hit theaters, and fans are still clamoring for more. So, will there be another Bad Boys movie?

The short answer is: maybe.

The long answer is a little more complicated.

Bad Boys 3, also known as Bad Boys for Life, has been in development hell for years. The project has languished at various studios and has undergone multiple rewrites. However, things seem to be moving forward once again, with directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah attached to helm the film.

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are both signed on to return as Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, respectively. However, it’s unclear if they will actually appear in the film or if their characters will only be mentioned in passing.

Production is expected to begin sometime in 2019, so we’ll have to wait and see if Bad Boys 3 finally comes to fruition.

Bad Boys I

Bad Boys I was released in 1995, and was directed by Michael Bay. The movie starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as two Miami police detectives who must retrieve stolen heroin from a former Miami drug lord. The movie grossed over $140 million at the box office, and was well-received by critics.

A sequel, Bad Boys II, was released in 2003. The movie grossed over $270 million at the box office, and received mixed reviews from critics.

It is unclear if there will be another Bad Boys movie.

Bad Boys II

It has been over 10 years since the release of Bad Boys II, and fans are still clamoring for another installment in the franchise. Will there be another Bad Boys movie?

The answer is: maybe. In 2016,producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that he was working on a script for Bad Boys III, and that both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence were on board to reprise their roles as Detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. However, nothing further has been announced, and the project seems to be stalled.

With both Smith and Lawrence now in their 50s, it’s possible that the duo may be too old to play the bad boy detectives. But if there’s one thing we’ve learned from the Fast & Furious franchise, it’s that age is no barrier to action movie stardom! So never say never – we may yet see Mike and Marcus back on the big screen in Bad Boys III.

Bad Boys III

In an interview with Collider, Smith revealed that he and his Bad Boys co-star Martin Lawrence have been working on a script for Bad Boys III. “We’re definitely doing another one,” said Smith.

The Cast

Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are currently the only cast members from the original movie who have been confirmed for the third installment. However, it is rumored that Bad Boys for Life will also feature cameos from some of the original cast members, including Tea Leoni, who played Smith’s ex-wife in the first movie.

The Crew

The first Bad Boys movie was released in 1995 and starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett, two Detectives in the Miami Police Department. The movie was directed by Michael Bay and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. It was a commercial success, grossing $141 million dollars against a budget of $19 million dollars.

The second Bad Boys movie, titled Bad Boys II, was released in 2003 and again starred Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett. The movie was once again directed by Michael Bay and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. It was a critical and commercial success, grossing $273 million dollars against a budget of $130 million dollars.

Now, over ten years later, it looks like the crew might be getting back together for another Bad Boys movie. In an interview with Collider, producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that he is working on a script for Bad Boys 3 with screenwriter David Guggenheim. He also said that both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are on board for the project and that he hopes to start filming sometime next year.

We will have to wait and see if Bad Boys 3 can live up to the hype of the first two movies, but it certainly looks promising.

The Plot

It’s been 17 years since Bad Boys II brought the cops Mike Lowrey (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) back to the big screen, and now it looks like a third movie in the franchise might finally be happening.

According to The Tracking Board, Sony is in early development on a third Bad Boys movie, with Joe Carnahan (The A-Team) attached to direct and Jerry Bruckheimer producing. The studio is reportedly considering either bringing back Smith and Lawrence for another ride or possibly going with a new team of actors for the next installment.

Carnahan has been teasing the prospect of a Bad Boys 3 for years, even going so far as to announce that he had completed a script for the film back in 2015. However, it appears that things are finally starting to come together for the long-gestating project.

Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but it’s possible that the new film could focus on Lowrey and Burnett’s efforts to take down a new group of criminals in Miami. It’s also worth noting that carnahan’s script was reportedly titled Bad Boys For Life, so there’s a chance that could be the title of the new movie as well.

There’s no word yet on when Sony might start filming Bad Boys 3, but with Carnahan attached to direct, it seems likely that things could start moving forward relatively soon. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.

8 ) The Release Date

It’s been 17 years since the release of Bad Boys II, and fans are still clamoring for a third installment in the buddy cop franchise. The good news is that a third movie is finally in the works, with production set to begin in early 2019. The bad news is that we don’t know much else about the project, other than the fact that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence are set to reprise their roles as Detective Mike Lowrey and Detective Marcus Burnett.

Here’s everything we know about Bad Boys for Life so far:

The Release Date
The film was originally set for release on November 9, 2018, but it was pushed back to January 17, 2020. Then, in October 2018, it was announced that the release date had been moved up to August 2, 2019. However, in February 2019, it was announced that the film had been delayed again and was now set for release on January 31, 2020.

The cast
Aside from Smith and Lawrence, the only other cast member who has been confirmed is Joe Pantoliano, who will once again play Captain Howard Bennett.

The Budget

It all comes down to the budget. The first Bad Boys movie had a budget of $19 million and went on to gross over $140 million worldwide. The sequel, Bad Boys II, had a budget of $130 million and grossed over $270 million worldwide. So, it seems like the movies are pretty profitable.

However, the cost of making a third Bad Boys movie would likely be even higher. The last two movies featured expensive set pieces and special effects, and the cast (Will Smith and Martin Lawrence) is now much more famous (and therefore more expensive).

So, it remains to be seen whether or not the studio will greenlight another Bad Boys movie. If they do, it will probably be because they think it will be a big hit at the box office.

Conclusion

It is evident that a third Bad Boys movie is in development. The fact that both Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have signed on to return suggests that the project is further along than just the script stage. It seems likely that filming will begin sometime in 2020, with a release date sometime in 2021. This is all speculation at this point, but given the success of the first two movies, it would be surprising if a third one did not eventually materialize.
